Announcing New Autism Hours - Why Play Matters for Every Child

At Atmore Play Palace, we believe in the power of play for all children, regardless of their unique needs. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce a special initiative to ensure that all children feel welcome, comfortable, and supported in our space. We are excited to introduce Autism Hours, a new time dedicated to providing an inclusive, sensory-friendly environment for children with autism and their families.

Autism Hours: Wednesdays from 2 PM – 5 PM

Every Wednesday afternoon, we will adjust our environment to cater specifically to children with autism, offering a space where they can enjoy playtime in a calm, controlled atmosphere. This dedicated time allows families to visit Play Palace without worrying about overwhelming sounds, bright lights, or crowded spaces.

What Makes Autism Hours Special?

We’ve made several thoughtful adjustments to make our facility more sensory-friendly and to ensure children with autism and their families have the best experience possible:

  • Lowered Music: The volume of our background music will be reduced, creating a quieter, more peaceful environment.

  • Dimming the Lights: We understand that bright, fluorescent lights can be overwhelming for some children, so we’ll keep the lights softer and more soothing.

  • Limiting the Number of Guests: By reducing the number of people in the facility, we create a less crowded space where children can play and explore without feeling overwhelmed.

  • Noise-Reducing Headphones: We will have noise-reducing headphones available for children who may be sensitive to sounds, helping them enjoy their time here more comfortably.

These changes are designed to create a more inclusive and supportive space for children with autism to experience the joy of play in a stress-free setting. It’s all about making sure every child feels seen, supported, and free to be themselves!

The Importance of Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, increase understanding, and promote acceptance of individuals with autism. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects millions of children and adults worldwide, and each individual’s experience is unique. This month reminds us all of the importance of fostering an inclusive society where everyone—regardless of their challenges—can thrive.

At Play Palace, we are committed to doing our part in supporting the autism community. We understand that families of children with autism often face unique challenges, and we want to ensure that every child has access to a safe, enjoyable space where they can play and grow. Our Autism Hours are one way we are taking action to make our community more inclusive and accepting.

Addressing the Need for More Resources in Lower Alabama

In Lower Alabama, there are limited resources for families with autistic children. Many families struggle to find spaces where their children can enjoy fun, social, and developmental activities that accommodate their unique sensory needs. At Atmore Play Palace, we are proud to be part of the solution by providing a safe, welcoming environment that supports children with autism and their families.

By introducing Autism Hours, we are filling a significant gap in the region, offering a space where families don’t have to worry about feeling excluded or overwhelmed. We are helping to change the landscape for children with autism in our community by providing opportunities for social engagement, physical play, and imaginative exploration in a setting that is sensitive to their needs.

How Play Palace Is Helping

At Atmore Play Palace, we believe that play is essential for all children. It promotes social skills, enhances cognitive development, and fosters emotional well-being. Our Autism Hours initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of their individual needs, has access to the joy and benefits of play.

By making our space more accessible to children with autism, we are contributing to the creation of a more inclusive community. We are proud to be offering a welcoming environment where every family can feel comfortable and every child can have fun.
